It's been a while since I've been able to post, but I'm back with tons of new and exciting creations. I've been crafting away for weeks now on new ideas and crafty creations. So now, I'm able to quickly to share my latest creation. I had a blast putting this sweet scrapbook together for a new client in Germany. Her 7 year old granddaughter was going on a trip and need something special to take with her. I included personalized pages, custom shaped pages, movable pieces for her to play with, lots of ribbons and fibers, lots of extra tags for journaling and photos, and a matching pen. I had a blast putting this together and found that I liked it so much I wanted to put several more together - which you will all see shortly. This hiatus from computer networking has given me time to reconnect with my craft room again and let's just say it was in need of some TLC. Up and Coming Couture Fashions!

When searching through Etsy's vast array of designers and styles I came across this charming new boutique. I liked what I saw and decided to contact the seller for more information. She is professional, polite, and quite knowledgeable about fashion and design - among other things. I wanted to know a little more about her background and inspirations. This is what she had to say:

"When I look back on my most defining years, I see all the signs of becoming a designer. Not just a clothing manipulator, but a truly creative, artistic fashion designer. It goes all the way back to when I had my first communion. You know that when you're the only girl in a pink taffeta first communion gown, you're going to grow up to be creative in fashion.

It didn't hit me then, but when I decided to design every formal gown I needed for school (both in high school and college), I began to wonder if this would be in my future. But, as my studies in Biosystems Engineering furthered away from design and creativity, my need for artistic release increased. Since there was no room in the curriculum for art classes, I began to express my right-brain power more energetically. And when I studied abroad for environmental classes in Costa Rica, a classmate asked me if I carried my clothes in a vacuum sealed bag because my outfits seemed to change so much and I was always color coordinated. I laughed and replied in the same manner, "I just mix-n-match, but everything goes together!" When I eventually earned my B.S. degree in 2002 with a GPA well above a 3.0, I still had a passion for design. All my formals had passed, and I needed something creative to do.

Then, I found The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). Through my (what seemed to be) endless searching, I had finally found it: An actual place where I could express my inner artist through fashion. Much to my parents' and friends' dismay, I moved from a small town in Michigan to the busy and outgoing metropolis in LA. At the age of 23, I finally learned how I could express my passion. I used my detailed problem solving skills from engineering and graduated with an A.A. degree Magna Cum Laude. My designs were a hit with my teachers and classmates. My attention to detail and my portfolio were one of the best in my class. It was the best experience I could have had at a fashion school.

My time in LA was worth every penny, and I didn't want to leave once school was over. But, life has a way of changing your plans. At the age of 27, I now live in Saint Augustine, FL with my husband, David, and two children, Tyler and Lillian. Since, I've been busy creating a family, I haven't had time to add to my portfolio. As you can imagine, two children under the age of two is a handful in itself! But, now my passion is creeping back into our lives. I am grabbing hold of that passion and starting production of my first line for Coastal Couture, Inc. My label is inspired by my home here by the beach, but is still a high-end designer brand. I hope you enjoy the collections as they debut in Spring 2008. Look for new collections for the Spring and Fall seasons in the upcoming years. And remember to "release the daydreamer within, it's a euphoric kind of thing."

LuckyTwentyOne - Ink Drawings, Paintings & More!

As someone that is relatively new to Etsy myself (my second business), I realize how difficult it is to keep up with all of the technology, rules, and updates necessary to work through starting a business. Tonight while taking advantage of the numerous critique info through Etsy, I came across someone else having a similar identity crisis. She was in need of image info and so was I. After posting a few notes about her banner, it was clear she needed a revamp. Her artwork is great! But her personality and design style were just not getting across in her banner design.

Having working in graphic design for several years and now owning my own business (Swerve Media Solutions), I felt it was important to help out a fellow Etsian as so many have helped me before. Thankfully, Etsy has created a wonderful ambiance of friendship and support that I don't see many other places. It still maizes me that the same people who usually are clawing and sabotaging my credibility and marketability as competition are now the ones with supportive legitimate answers to important questions and concerns when growing a business. I appreciate the constant contact between fellow sellers and I'm happy to help whenever I can (as I did with designing a new banner for LuckyTwentyOne).

We've been working tirelessly to come up with new and exciting items for you to add to your scrapbook pages, cards, albums, and room decor. We have spent hours researching, designing, discussing, testing, and developing several new products - we hope you'll enjoy. Our latest is the addition of die-cuts. All of our die-cuts are personally crafted and not only offer superior quality, but eco-friendly options as well. We have contracted a deal with a local manufacturing company to remove scrap items that would otherwise be sent to a landfill. Having worked with these types of industrial materials for several years, we are prepared and knowledgeable about the variety of alternative uses and their extended capabilities - specifically in the craft world. (This allows us to offer superior quality products at a lower cost than many of our competitors.)

Every year I agonize over what the perfect gift will be for my mother and mother-in-law. It never fails that I end up buying something or making something, then wondering if it was the right thing to do. Are you going to a St. Patrick's Day Festival or Party? Then add some luck to your wardrobe, gifts, and decorations. Pin on festive sayings, glittery shamrocks, and accessorize to get into the spirit. Let everyone know if you're proud to be Irish, lucky, or just happy it's another holiday. Sewing Tips for Hand-Sewn Hems and Inseams

A typical inseam pant stitch would be made with a serger (a tight looping stitch machine that also cuts to create perfect edge stitching - like what is probably already there) You can either try to mimic this stitch with tight looping stitches (over and under close together then add a straight "running" stitch over the middle of the flattened loops for double strength) or straight stitching in and out then supporting it along the inner side (the hem-side / cut-side) with a zig-zag stitch. Here is a diagram for better understanding.
